Outsourcing to BCR boosts Taiao’s business
Taiao Aluminium (Taiao) is a specialist aluminium extrusion company manufacturing architectural, electronic, aviation, transportation and decorative products in China. The company has office locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Europe and the United States servicing customers in highly competitive market sectors. Taiao’s competitive edge is being able to take a customer’s idea from design to delivery of quality finished goods including products with specialised finishes.
Efficiency and clarity in the logistics task makes for a better bottom line
Since partnering with BCR to handle its national customs clearance and domestic freight forwarding in Australia, Taiao has been able to focus more effectively on deepening customer relationships. The result has been record sales two years in a row, an improved transparency on deliveries to Taiao customer in real time, more effective invoicing timelines, and far less frustration.
- BCR developed a dynamic, cloud based reporting tool based on Taiao’s specific needs
- One point of contact for all domestic freight forwarding – BCR – instead of multiple phone calls to a variety of providers around Australia
- Outsourcing to BCR means less time spent on the logistics task which means more time for developing product ideas with customers
Before engaging the expertise of BCR to handle its national customs clearance, container unpacks and domestic freight forwarding, Taiao was managing deliveries to their customers in-house for every state except Victoria. They were spending significant resources and time on the phone dealing with numerous trucking companies often finding that in smaller markets, the providers did not make timely delivery of their goods a priority.
Taiao General Manager Mr Craig Cordukes says “In addition to the frustration of managing multiple trucking companies, we were also finding lags in delivery confirmation from many of the domestic freight forwarding providers. This meant delays in us being able to invoice our customers as these are only sent when a consignment has reached the customer. The final straw came when some customers were actually chasing Taiao for invoices because the trucking company had failed to report back.”
Mr Cordukes had heard good reports of BCR’s third party logistics (3PL) services from some of Taiao’s biggest customers, so he knew they were reliable, efficient and experienced in handling aluminium products with specialist finishes in a manner that kept credit claims for damaged goods to a minimum.
After meeting with BCR and explaining his frustrations, Mr Cordukes felt confident BCR could develop a solution that would cut the time spent on logistics to a minimum while also improving the level of service customers would receive.
The 3PL services BCR has since been providing for the past two years are complemented by a cloud based data system developed specifically for Taiao. This tool enables tracking of all shipments between China and the final end point in Australia. Knowing exactly when a shipment will be delivered allows invoices to be raised efficiently and created so they arrive at the same time as the products – which also improves the company’s cash flow forecasting.
“At BCR, we are focused on developing 3PL solutions that are customised for each customer. When we start working with a new customer, we spend time getting to know their business and the logistics problems that are being experienced within their freight forwarding, customs clearance, transportation or 3PL warehousing. We then review their areas of concern and develop a solution that specifically meets their needs,” states Mr Bill Urwin, BCR Head of Account Management.
Customised solutions mean better customer service
“The best thing about working with BCR is their willingness to think outside the square. We shared with them our frustrations and within two days, they developed a customised solution that delivered exactly what we needed,” says Mr Cordukes. “They were willing to sit down and have a think about it and understand what we needed so we could implement it quickly and achieve our own goals.”
He says there are no longer problems with domestic freight forwarding deliveries, even in the smaller markets. No more phone calls from his team having to change providers, because BCR manages the trucking companies proactively, and those companies respect having the business of BCR’s customers.
All of this together means he and his staff are now spending more time doing what they do best – developing and delivering products that help their customers succeed in a competitive global marketplace.
Since outsourcing to BCR, Taiao’s team is able to spend more time doing what they do best – developing and delivering products that help their customers succeed in a competitive global marketplace.
