3PL – Third Party Logistics
Are you spending too much time on freight forwarding and logistics related tasks? Are your shipments delayed? Can you see into your stock levels? If logistics and freight forwarder related functions such as warehousing and distribution, international sea and air freight forwarding and customs brokerage are not core competencies in your organisation, your supply chain may benefit from outsourcing part or all of your supply chain to a 3PL provider.
What exactly is a third party logistics (3PL) provider?
A 3PL provider is defined by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals as “a firm which provides multiple logistics services for use by customers. Preferably, these services are integrated, or “bundled” together by the provider. These firms facilitate the movement of parts and materials from suppliers to manufacturers, and finished products from manufacturers to distributors and retailers. Among the services which they provide are transportation, warehousing, cross-docking, inventory management, packaging, and freight forwarding.
