Technology UpgradeAt BCR we have started on a major technology upgrade.

Over the years I have seen the demise of 8”, 5.25” & 3.5” floppy’s and now with the CD virtually extinct, we are now able to install PCs reduced to the size of a book. Using the technology from the latest laptops with Solid State Drives and low watt CPU’s. All you need now are USB and video ports. The reduced size and power requirements will see a reduction in power consumption and an increase in speed with the use of the latest technology PC’s.

As we roll out our new hardware we are not forgetting about our software. Our aim is within the next 4 weeks, to rid ourselves of the Windows 7 and move all PC’s to Win 10. Win 7 will be out of support in early 2020. At the same time, we will also be installing the latest version of Office 365. This will bring our office productivity software up to date and, also provide us with all the advantages of, cloud file sharing and availability. Office 365 will also start to reduce the reliance on internal servers and make our systems more highly available to our users.

Over the years we have seen an ever-increasing number of emails in our inboxes. The current trend is to try to avoid using email in an intracompany environment. The way forward is to set up the company into TEAMS. Once in a team, the team will organize their files and projects within a channel. In the team or channel that you have created, you can then have real-time discussions across geo-locations based on the topic of the channel. This keeps similar work functions within a known place and reduces the reliance on sending an email to keep up to date on a subject, you would only have to look at or update the channel to find or receive the latest information.

We can now look forward to BCR having the latest hardware and software to aid us in productivity and communication and look forward to showing you, how it works.
